What is centre (cent)?

It was launched in 2018 and is backed by the CENTRE Consortium, a partnership between Circle and Coinbase, two well-funded and well-known cryptocurrency brands. The coin is meant to help stabilize volatile crypto prices and compete with Tether (USDT), a competing stablecoin embroiled in controversy.

Is circle the only issuer of USDC?

Circle remains the sole issuer of USDC. Any other token claiming to be, or to be affiliated with, USDC or its members is not supported by Centre and Coinbase or redeemable by Circle. Please be vigilant for bad actors' scams & phishing attempts that encourage you to interact with unsupported assets on the ETH PoW chain.

What does Circle do?

At the highest level, Circle works closely with U.S. congressional leaders to align the open values of Web3 with the traditional financial system and help create our harmonious, interconnected future. Is USDC a cryptocurrency? How can I trust that USDC will always be equivalent to a dollar?

How does circle invest in USDC?

Circle invests a portion of the reserves backing USDC in the Circle Reserve Fund, a SEC-registered government money market fund which holds a portfolio of short-dated US Treasuries and cash. For more information visit Circle Reserve Fund. For further details on the USDC reserve, please see our detailed monthly attestations.
